Environmental Manager

Position Description:
Barrick Nevada is looking for a Manager to join the Environmental Services team. The Environmental Manager develops implements and coordinates the permitting for the mine-site and ensures compliance by monitoring air, land and water quality, as well as coordinates environmental projects between divisions and departments.
Responsibilities:
Actively manage all environmental programs and compliance for open pit and underground mining operations, including overseeing the collection of data necessary to ensure the accurate and timely environmental reporting to site management and regulatory agencies;
Communicate with all departments and government agencies, at local, state and federal level, on environmental compliance matters;
Manage all key environmental aspects related to water, waste (non-hazardous and hazardous), air quality, lands (public and private), and reclamation/closure;
Oversee the preparation of environmental reports and other technical documents that are submitted to local, state and federal regulatory agencies, and to Barrick corporate;
Liaise and coordinate with the Corporate permitting team to ensure that Operational perspectives are taken into consideration during large scale permitting activities;
Track permit renewals, regulatory proposals and pending legislation;
Develop and manage the environmental department budget;
Coach and mentor environmental department personnel to aid in professional development of skill sets
Assure compliance with company and site-specific policies, standards, procedures and objectives associated with site processes, initiatives/projects and recommend new policies or procedures, if necessary;
Direct the site development of guidance material and programs to support implementation of Barrick's Environmental Management System and associated ISO 14001:2015 standard;
Participate in the development of audit protocols and coordinate internal and third-party audits to confirm compliance with all legal and other requirements;
Engage with business partners, community stakeholders and NGO's on business matters as needed;
Prepare recommendations for upper management on the implementation of new environmental systems, procedures or organizational changes;
Conduct operational effectiveness reviews to ensure environmental compliance; and,
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline such as Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biology or Geology required
Minimum of ten (10) years demonstrated environmental experience required
Minimum five (5) years mining experience (open pit and underground operations) required
Minimum five (5) years supervisory experience required
Ability to firmly and assertively present Barrick's environmental management philosophy both internally and externally required
Possess a sound understanding of company environmental policies and objectives, a sense of personal responsibility and the ability to identify and convey to others the appropriate urgency of environmental matters required
Ability to act in a proactive manner, to anticipate problems and to solve existing problems within the context of operational requirements and environmental legal constraints required
Ability to listen to opinions and formulate recommendations in a confident and constructive manner required
Exhibit solid intellectual capability including strong knowledge of environmental issues within the minerals industry required; and,
A keen business acumen required

Barrick Nevada is an integrated gold mining operation that combines the Cortez and Goldstrike properties in Nevada, employing a total of 3,000 employees and 800 contractors. The operation utilizes both open pit and underground mining methods with Autoclave and Roaster processing facilities at Goldstrike and Milling/Heap Leaching facilities at Cortez.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
